Career Q&A: Starting a Business

Last month, I had the opportunity to speak at several events for entreprenuers and I was able to share my tips and experiences with fellow creatives. I thought it would be helpful to share my career tips here for anyone that missed the events, but also want advice about starting a business, becoming self-employed, and the lessons I have learned along the way…

Why I Am Not Ready for a Second Baby

Once Ford turned one-years-old, the questions started coming in. At first, they felt like a small nudge. Always along the lines of, “are you ready for another?” or “Ford is one now, time for number two!” I know that these comments come from a good place. I know that our son brings our family members, friends and our own family so much joy. But why… and when is it okay to start questioning a mom about growing her family? For me, one-year felt too soon.

Halloween Decor Tips

I didn’t have much Halloween decor to start with this year, so wanted to focus on a few key basics that were simple enough to use each year and would be fun for Ford. I ended up with a few really fun pieces that I found at Party City, along with classic “pumpkin” decor that I have picked up at my favorite local stores. I decided to pick “one” focal area to go all out and for us it was our living room.

Honest Thoughts on Faster Way to Fat Loss

I just finished the 8-week program called Faster Way to Fat Loss. I did it because I was lost when it came to getting my postpartum body back on track. I didn’t go into the program with the goal to lose weight, but to feel better, stronger and comfortable in my body. I also did it because I knew people (in real life) that have successfully completed the program and seen results. I figured, if it worked for them - why not try it for myself?

My Postpartum Body Struggles

Now that I am done breastfeeding and navigating our new schedule with a toddler, I am focusing on my health and not the number on the scale. I am learning to accept that I may never weight what I did before becoming a mother. And it feels like I am starting all over in many ways. But instead of looking at the scale, I am looking at the other small victories. This is my postpartum body struggle and the journey I am on…

First Birthday Gift Ideas

I am in shock that it’s almost Ford’s first birthday. It just doesn’t seem possible that he is going to be one! I’ve done a LOT of research and have been pulling together all the ideas of gifts for this milestone birthday. I am not sure what your traditions are, but we go big for milestone birthdays and this one will be no exception. I wanted to also ask the experts on what toys would be worth investing in for a first birthday gift. SO, I enlisted my friends at Learning Tree Toys, a local children’s toy company that I support and trust to share advice with me. Their ideas were so helpful, I thought I would share with you!

Inspirational Life + Career Podcasts

I am a HUGE podcast junkie. I honestly don’t listen to the radio in my car anymore (unless Ford is fussy and I play his nursery rhymes.) I almost always have a podcast plugged in! From business to motherhood and daily life inspiration, I have a list of favorites that are always on rotation. Thought it would be fun to share my most loved podcasts and the episodes that are a MUST listen.

11 Months with Ford

Ford is 11-months. My little baby looks (and acts) more like a toddler by the day. He no longer crawls and prefers to walk. He’s gotten quite good at it! He has a little personality including telling me “no” by shaking his head. He loves to point out animals like, birds and dogs. He is starting to say “ba” for bird and “da” for dog.

Gifts to Give a New Mama

Now that I am almost 1-year into my motherhood journey, I have such a different perspective on what I would give to a new mama. When I was prepping for Ford to arrive, I was focused on folding his cute baby onesies and curating the perfect nursery. I tried my best to research baby items we would need and actually use, but it’s really hard to know…until you know.
